Working Together

I support writers to produce their best work. I offer a range of services for authors of Non-fiction (Memoir, Biography, Creative Non-Fiction) and scholars working in the Humanities (English, Creative Writing, History and Art History). My feedback is constructive, encouraging and honest.

I have taught English and Creative Writing at universities across the UK as well as in the US. I regularly teach research-based writing as well as memoir and creative short courses. In my own writing life, I have published a monograph and a chapbook of creative non-fiction essays, and numerous scholarly articles. As an editor, I have produced collections as well as special issues of peer-reviewed journals, and worked as a copyeditor and reviewer for journals. I have a PhD in English & Humanities from Birkbeck College and an MA in Biography & Creative Non-Fiction from UEA.

I do not take on fiction manuscripts or projects beyond my areas of expertise.

Mentoring / Individual Sessions

My manuscript assessment service is developmental in nature. It is designed for authors with a complete or nearly-complete draft. This includes a read-through of the manuscript focusing on key themes, structure and areas that might be improved.

Feedback will be shared in a report rather than as comments on the document.

Please note, I do not offer copyediting or line editing as part of this service. I will point out repetitive habits or areas of potential improvement for the overall style of your writing.

Books (50,000-100,000 words) -
£300 for a 3-5 page report
Articles, Chapters, Essays (8,000-15,000 words) -
£100 for a 1-2 page report
Academic Book Proposals (5-15 pages) -
£100 for a 1-2 page report

This service is ideal for work in progress. I will read your manuscript to get a sense of the voice and structure. I will leave in-line comments on your manuscript and provide some copyediting and mechanical guidance (formatting, spelling, grammar, citation, if applicable).

Once finished reading your work, I will produce a report focusing on structure, style and further areas of development.

If required, we can arrange a 20-minute individual meeting online to discuss the feedback.

£15 per 1,000 words – line edits on document + a report

Would you like to work through a barrier in your writing or develop an idea in a supported way? Perhaps you’ve recently completed an MA or short course and could use further guidance as you push ahead.

I offer mentoring and individual sessions for writers. In each online session, we will read through your work together (length to be agreed in advance) and discuss strategies for your writing.

We can also do writing exercises or set out an action plan together, if this is useful to your practice or development.
